Disruptive Innovations to Integrate Health Systems: Onil Bhattacharyya at TEDxStouffville

Disruptive Innovations to Integrate Health Systems: Onil Bhattacharyya at TEDxStouffville

“Disruptive Innovations to Integrate Health Systems – Global and Local Models for a Sustainable Future”

The Canadian health system faces rising costs and an increasingly complex patient population. Low and middle income countries are finding frugal ways to provide care to over 2 billion people living on less than 2 dollars a day, despite an aging population and the rise of chronic disease. A range of disruptive innovations can help us rethink health care delivery by better connecting providers across our system and exchanging with emerging markets.

Bio: Onil Bhattacharyya is a clinician scientist with the Li Ka Shing Knowledge Institute of St. Michaels Hospital and an assistant professor in the Department of Family and Community Medicine and the Institute of Health Policy, Management and Evaluation. He studies innovative health service delivery models for the poor in low and middle income countries and is the co-lead of Building Bridges to Integrate Care, an Ontario Ministry funded initiative to incubate and replicate new models of care for complex chronic disease.

B Vitamins – What You Need To Know

B Vitamins – What You Need To Know

The B vitamins are

B1 (thiamine)
B2 (riboflavin)
B3 (niacin)
B5 (pantothenic acid)
B6
B7 (biotin)
B12
Folic acid
These vitamins help the process your body uses to get or make energy from the food you eat. They also help form red blood cells. You can get B vitamins from proteins such as fish, poultry, meat, eggs, and dairy products. Leafy green vegetables, beans, and peas also have B vitamins. Many cereals and some breads have added B vitamins.

Not getting enough of certain B vitamins can cause diseases. A lack of B12 or B6 can cause anemia.

India's Health Care System (ARCHIVE)

India's Health Care System (ARCHIVE)

August 27, 2009 archived broadcast.
In India, health care is officially government financed and government run. However, actually accessing publicly provided health care is another matter. There is a severe lack of funding by the government. People, including the poor, often have to pay out of pocket and quite a lot to get any access to health care. India spends $109 annually per person (vs. $7,290 in the U.S.). India spends 4.9% of GDP (vs. 16% of GDP in the U.S.) on health care.
